The Australian Border Force and the Department of Home Affairs have taken a liberal approach to student visa holders, including those who work above their normal work limits in specific areas.

If you are employed in certain sectors, you can work for more than 40 hours every two weeks. Students who work with authorised and approved aged care service/providers with RACS ID/NAPS ID before 8th September 2020, registered NDIS providers or in agricultural, tourism and hospitality sectors are eligible. Students who are enrolled in a healthcare-related course and supporting the health effort against COVID-19 as per direction from the health officials are also eligible to work under this option. You may visit the website of the Department of Home Affairs for further information.

This is a temporary provision due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the government will reassess it at a later stage.

Legislation and policy about immigration in Australia change quite often. Please make sure that you check the website of the Department of Home Affairs for changes that may be applicable to you.
