CANADA: WORK PERMIT OPTION FOR RECENT PERMANENT RESIDENCY APPLICANTS

Beginning July 26, 2021, those who have filed for the recently announced option to permanent residency will be eligible for an open work permit while awaiting the outcome of their application, according to Marco E. L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship.
On May 6, 2021, international students who successfully completed their qualification from a Canadian institution, workers in the health care sector and who work in other specified essential job positions were given the opportunity to apply for permanent residence.
Individuals must be legally working in Canada when they submit their application and retain their temporary resident status until their permanent residence application is finalised, to qualify for this permanent residence pathway.
