AUSTRALIA’S PLAN TO REOPEN THE BORDER

All major lockdowns will be lifted and the country's international borders will begin to reopen once 80% of eligible Australians have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

The Australian government has a four-phase plan for the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. The first phase of the government's four-stage strategy to restore normalcy is still underway.

There will be fewer restrictions and lockdowns in Phase 2. The goal at this stage would be the reduction of serious illness, death, and hospital admissions.

There won’t be any lockdowns in stage 3. Mr. Morrison says that Australia will start treating COVID-19 like seasonal flu at this point.

The fourth and final stage will be a shift from the pandemic to the pre-covid stage. The situation is expected to be more normal and Australia may start issuing vaccine passports.

The country cannot be reopened "safely" until 80% of Australians (including children under the age of 12) have been vaccinated against Covid-19, according to a report by the Grattan Institute.
