Relief for H1B Visa Holders
US President Donald Trump’s decision on reducing the number of H1B visa holders in the US has come as a rude shock to not only Indians but also to immigrants from other parts of the world who work in the US. But Japan has actually decided to make this an opportunity to provide relief to its immigrants.
Japan – The Land of the Rising Sun, has a noticeable amount of migrants. This includes doctors, engineers, teachers, software experts etc. The usual practice for a migrant to get permanent residency in Japan is 5 years. They are evaluated based on certain criteria, this includes annual income, academic background and language skills. Points are given based on these criteria. People with more than 70 points are given permanent residency.
Japan seeing that its own working population is in threat in the US has decided to work on its in house permanent residency policy. This is actually good since this would also provide a boost to foreign companies to look for new pastures to invest in. Plus the current migrant workforce in japan also can breathe easy.
Relief for Visa holders
The new policy would come into place only in April 2017. According to the new policy, instead of waiting for 5 years, permanent residency can be got in 2 years. This would ensure that highly skilled professionals get their green cards at a faster pace. Well this no doubt provides relief but also opens a whole lot of opportunities.
With a change in policy, Japan is hoping to attract more number of Indian IT companies. Since Japan believes that its own IT sector does not have the talent that is available in India. IT companies and IT professionals in India no doubt are waiting for such an opportunity.
